Highway Patrol Officer Dave Eason and his wife, Michelle, recently bought a used Nissan Rogue, which they plan to use as their road trip vehicle.
The Easons have also spent several weeks traveling in the desert with their son and two daughters.
In the end, the couple says they wanted to do something different than “doing things that are really, really expensive.”
Their goal was to build something that was affordable, they said.
“It’s a cheap way to do it,” Eason said.
After spending the first year or two trying to convince their parents to let them ride in their car on the side of the highway, the Easons decided to try something different.
“I think it’s a really good idea,” Easteras said.
Their goal: build a toy for their road trips.
Eason, an experienced mechanic who has driven for more than 30 years, said he and his partners have tried several types of road trip toys and decided on the new model.
They spent about $300 on the toy, including materials and parts.
The car they designed is an older model, which the Eases purchased for $4,500, the price of a used vehicle.
It will include all the tools needed to install the toy on a trailer.
Ease said he hopes to have the vehicle ready for the holidays.
“We’ve had a lot of interest in this, and I think it is something that will bring a lot more people to the show,” he said.
The project will be at the end of May at a Reno, Nev., factory.
“This is the biggest road trip I’ve ever been involved in,” Ease added.
“The idea of going through a desert, driving a road trip, and bringing a car in, that’s really exciting.”
