Amtrak’s first passenger train in California won’t hit the tracks until sometime in 2019, but it’s already the most ambitious project in the nation’s history.
The new Amtrak California high-frequency train is designed to replace the aging Amtrak Pacific Coast Railway, which was decommissioned in 2016.
The new train will run trains every 15 minutes, six times a day, instead of the current four-hour window, according to a news release.
That means the train can run faster, faster, and faster.

It will be operated by the American Transportation Authority, Amtrak’s predecessor, with a contract valued at $3.9 billion.
It will be the first passenger high-tech train to operate in California, and it will be one of Amtrak’s last high-powered passenger trains, according an Amtrak spokesperson.
“The new California High Speed Train will help bring a new and exciting dimension to Amtrak’s operations, including an increase in ridership and increased revenue,” said Amtrak Chief Executive Officer Tom Horton.
“It will create a better economy for the region, increase safety and security for travelers, and provide high-quality transportation for our guests.”
This project will provide a critical boost to our network while helping to create a strong foundation for the future,” he added.
The train will travel between San Francisco and Sacramento in five hours, a trip that can now be made on a single train.
It can also take passengers through the Mojave Desert.
The high speed train will be powered by a hybrid electric train engine, powered by batteries.
Amtrak said it plans to have electric cars on every train by 2020.
The California high speed trains will be equipped with sensors that will track where the train is and what’s happening, and will communicate with each other to let passengers know when the train’s about to arrive at a destination.
The high-performance electric trains will also be equipped to communicate with the Amtrak Pacific Northwest high-capacity train system, which is already in operation in Washington state.
It’s expected that the high-level train will also have some of the latest technology on board, including high-resolution video cameras and advanced data-sharing and analytics systems.
The track will have four lanes for trains and a double-deck car that seats 30,000 passengers.
It also will include a station for passenger services, as well as a stop for Amtrak’s Amtrak Pacific High Speed Line and Amtrak Pacific Rapid Transit trains.
The line will have two new stations in California and New Jersey.
The tracks are expected to be complete by 2023.
The trains will travel at speeds of up to 160 mph, which Amtrak said is “the fastest high-efficiency train on the planet.”
The train will operate on the San Francisco Bay Area, between Oakland and Berkeley, between Sacramento and Sacramento, and from Sacramento to San Francisco.
The project is expected to generate $9.4 billion in annual revenue for Amtrak.
The company is also expected to raise $3 billion through a combination of tax credits and federal grants.
The project has received a $9 billion loan from the California High Tech Investment Bank.
