The Kroger Highway is one of the state’s busiest highway arteries.
It’s the main highway through Colorado’s vast rural landscape, connecting the cities of Cheyenne, Silverton and Cheyemont, where the Kroger supermarket chain operates.
The highway also carries about 70 percent of Colorado’s total population, making it one of Colorado and the country’s busiest interstate highways.
In fact, the highway carries nearly two-thirds of all traffic on the Interstate 40 corridor, which spans the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Kroger highway has been a staple of Coloradoans’ daily lives since it opened in 1959.
Kroger’s headquarters are in Cheyemeont, but the company has an office in Denver.
The store has more than 40,000 employees, including 1,500 employees in Colorado, according to the company’s website.
