A Walmart military road that is part of the US Army’s Black Hills division has been closed by the Department of Defense for safety reasons after two men were killed, officials said.
Walmart officials have been unable to identify the victims, who were from the US and were both in their late 20s, because the Army does not require service members to wear identification on duty.
Wal-Mart is known for its military equipment, including Humvees and other military vehicles.
On Wednesday, the department said a driver of a military vehicle was hit by a pickup truck and died.
The driver, identified as 25-year-old Robert Rochat, was identified by family members as a friend of the two men who were killed.
The department said it was also notified that another driver was struck by a truck in the area of the road.
WalMart has been at the center of protests over the military’s use of lethal force in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Last week, the company fired a contractor who had been accused of being a serial shooter, which the company later said was false.
The US Army is the primary supplier of equipment and other services for the United States military and for civilian government agencies, including the Department for Veterans Affairs.
