As Congress considers how to spend the nation’s $1,380 billion federal stimulus package, the president has said he wants to use it to boost economic growth, provide more infrastructure and boost the nation.
The president has proposed using the $1 trillion to pay for his first year of office, which begins July 1.
The plan is to spend about $300 billion to boost the economy by adding $1 billion to unemployment insurance and about $500 billion to help consumers pay for health care, according to a White House summary of the president’s plan.
The budget would also expand tax credits for small businesses to encourage companies to hire and invest in the United States.
The White House is also seeking to add about $400 billion in funding for infrastructure projects in addition to stimulus.
The plan would also include $1 million to create a $1-trillion fund to support infrastructure investment in the country, a $500 million effort to help states build roads and bridges, and $100 million to expand Medicaid and $1-$2 billion to expand health insurance coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.
Trump said he will use the money to provide $1 per gallon gas tax, but some experts have said that could be a short-term boost.
