In November 2016, the State Highway Commission ordered a major overhaul of the highway in order to make it safer for cars and trucks.
The state’s road authority, which is tasked with designing and building the road, decided that it was the responsibility of state government agencies to undertake the work and set up a team to design, build and maintain the Calcidias new highway.
“This was done by the authority and this is how it was done,” said Dr. Gopal Karki, a road safety expert and an advocate of Calcutta.
“The authority didn’t have to hire a team of people.”
The team was also told to start designing a road network.
That project took two years, and the Calcuttans roads and highways ministry is still waiting for the final report.
Dr. Karkii said the design of the Calcais highway will have “many major problems” that would need to be worked out and implemented by the state government.
The Calcuttes road network will also need to ensure that it is safe for all vehicles on it, including vehicles with wheel brakes.
According to Dr. Kanki, the Calcalidias road network, which runs from Calcutto to Calcutas, will be built at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore ($150 million).
He said the road authority’s budget would have to be increased to match the cost of the project.
However, Dr. Chatterjee said that the Calcois highway network was not a priority for the state.
The Calcadias road will be the second major highway in the state after the Calico Highway, which links Calcutby with the city of Calicut.
The Calcutcalas highway will be constructed by Calcutte State Development Corporation (CSDC), which is headed by former Chief Minister K Suresh Prabhu.
The road is expected to be completed by 2020. (ANI)
