Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he thinks quarterback Alex Smith is a bit of “a mess” at the moment.
“I don’t think Alex Smith will ever be the guy he was before,” Reid said.
“He had some rough stretches, some really rough stretches.
And he had some good stretches.
But there’s no question about it, he’s still a very talented young man.
He’s got a lot of room to grow.
And I think there’s some things that need to get fixed, there’s a lot that needs to get corrected, that are going to come with the next couple years.”
Smith missed the past four games with a shoulder injury.
Reid’s comments follow a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that indicated the Chiefs were considering cutting Smith this offseason.
Smith has been linked to several teams this offseason, including the Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bears, and Oakland Raiders.
He has never won a Super Bowl.
